Discovering the Symptoms for ADHD
One can be hyperactive, with a lot of energy and possibly lacking the ability to concentrate fully on something without having ADD. Therefore, taking this into consideration, it becomes even harder to diagnose ADHD properly. What do physicans jugde as being or not being ADD?
<
Since everyone can be hyperactive at times and not able to concetrate on something, a correct diagnose of the disorder means that this tendency needs to repeat itself regularly over a course of time.
ADHD Signs And Symptoms
There are also some age-related requirements in that people with ADD sometimes behave abnormally for their ages. For instance, this type of erratic behaviour has to become evident after seven years of age and last for say, six months.
The behaviour also needs to point out defficiences in two major areasof one's life such as the behaviour in school and the academic performance, at home, living inside the community or when located in the playground. The disorder may even impair friendships from being formed but the diagnosis must be put after a careful assesment of many factors, because a child may seem overly active but perform very well in school, thus making it difficult to be diagnosed with ADD.
What Are Symptoms Of ADHD?
Before putting a diagnosis on a person ,specialists need to consider a number of factors such as whether the behaviour appears to be excessive and impulsive. Is it observable in the long term or simply erratic and spontaneours. If it is pervasiive, then something might be going on.
Also, does the behaviour appear frequently or rarely? If the problems manifests itslef ona continous basis, then it is not temporary. It is also important to note whether the behaviour is specific to a certain place, say the playground or whether it continues in the other environments as well. These pattersn of behaviour are very useful in answering some questions relating to the ADD disorder and diagnosis.
Making a Diagnosis
Some parents usually recognise inactivity, impulsivity and inattention in their chuld even before the time comes to go to schoo but while the child may not be willing to concentrate on doing a certain task or watch TV shows, he or she wll become loose and will try to dissipate the energy somewhere else. Since children at this age are innately full or energy and wanting to do as many things as they can, it is thus difficult to dinstinguish between what is specific to the age and what pertains to the disorder.
This is why is it advisable to obtain the opinion of a reknowed physician and see whether this hyperactivity in the child is purely normal or not. The peditrian can also be consulted for an opinion, as well as the psychologist and psychiatrist who can combine their observations together in order to make a holistic overview over what is happening with your child.
ADHD can be even observed by parents or staff at school and thus symptoms that could probaly remain unnoticed to the physician will be provided by the persons relating closer to the child.
Bearing in mind that the difference between a child suffering from ADHD and a chilt not suffering from it can be mostly observed in school, it is thus proper to observe the behaviour of a child at school, in the environment where he or she needs to perform academically but also interact with children of all ages around. This requires a lot of self contro, attention and social skills that the chuld needs to develop from an early age.
Therefore, even if teachers can sometimes be unable to recognize any suspicious symptoms in a child's behavior, one can largely distuinhish between a chuld that is quiet and obedient from one that is inattentive and unruly.
The People To Look For When Making a Diagnosis
If ADD is indeed suspected, then one needs to go to several sources to confirm his or her predictions.
Therefore, the diagnosis can be established by professionally trained physicians who have dealt in the past with this disorder.
Therefore, psychologits or child psychiatristis can provide an accurate diagnosis to a suspecting parent since they normally deal with behavioral issues. Also, behavioral neurologists can also form an educated opinion whether a child is suffering from ADD or not and parents could consider paying a visit even to child social workers, who work closely with children.
For one thing, the parents with a child suspect of having ADD need to visit the child pediatrician for a first, introductory opinion. This specialist, if baffled by the diagnosis he or she has to make, can direct the parents to visit a health specialist to ask for a second opinion.
Agencies at a regional level also provide assistance for such parents needing medical help and there are also volunteer organizations who can ensure the child receives a proper treatment, before putting the label of a diagnosis first.
For instance, psychiatrists are able to provide holistic services to a family in that they can counsel, prescribe medication and look for patterns of ADHD in a child, all at the same time. A psychologist would counsel the parents and look for ADD, but he or she could not give out any medication.
Moreover, a peditrician can prescribe medication, diagnose ADD but there is no counseling provided. Neurologists, at their turn, do not counsel parents but they diagnose ADD and also prescribe medication for it.
Lastly, social worker lack the ability of prescribing medication to a patient but they can diagnose ADD and provide moral support to the persons involved.
